Andrina is a 59 ft by 14 ft canal boat, consisting of two 6ft 10ins narrowboat hulls fastened together by wooden beams, which allows the boat to travel as one boat, but the hulls can be separated, when needed, for maintenance.
She is registered with CRT as a single wide boat.
Andrina was built initially by West Riding Boat Co. as a narrowboat for the previous owner in the 1980s. Some years later he then had another, almost identical narrowboat built by Ironworks of Nazeing, Essex and the two hulls were fastened together to form the boat as she is today.
The boat is powered by a BMC 1500 diesel engine in the starboard hull. A similar BMC 1500 is fitted in the port hull, but has not been commissioned. A spare BMC 1500 engine comes with the boat, but this will need to be fully reconditioned.
The boat has not moved under its own power for approximately 12 years but the starboard hull engine has been fixed and is working on a bypass from the diesel tank, due to the age of the fuel within. The boat safety certificate expired in October 2022.
One of the hulls has been equipped and used as a workshop and storage facility.
This hull contains a large selection of storage racks, hand tools, and electrical tools. A fixed pillar drill is fitted. Please note that all of these tools will be included in the sale, but their working condition cannot be guaranteed. The other hull has living accommodation, albeit basic, consisting of a bedroom, shower/ bathroom, kitchen and sitting area. There is a “Somy”diesel stove in the sitting area, which provides cabin warmth and hot water is provided by a Rinnai instant gas heater. There is also an extensive storage space off the sitting area, which could be made into a second bedroom.
The previous owner was extremely fastidious about security, and most of the portholes have been blanked off (but very easily reopened) and the roof lights have strong steel grilles built in.
The gas system was working until very recently but has been disconnected at the gas cylinders. It would be a relatively easy job to reconnect the system, but it will need to be tested by a gas-safe engineer.
The domestic water system was working when the boat was last lived on.
There is a pump out toilet on the starboard side.
The superstructure would benefit from a repaint.
The boat’s hulls look to be in reasonable condition, but this cannot be guaranteed. Hulls last epoxy’d 2006. The hulls have anodes fitted. The boat is to be sold “as seen”
Words and photographs alone cannot adequately describe this boat. It really needs to be seen to fully appreciate its potential. As the photos demonstrate, the boat need a lot of work to bring Andrina back to life. It would be perfect for someone who wishes to run an engineering /repair business while living afloat or the boats could be separated and 1 becomes 2!
The boat is being sold by the community who own it and where it is currently moored in East London.
