Lola was constructed as a canal cruiser for use in the waterways of mainland Europe.
The design allows the vessel to function very well as a residential unit, with the option of occasional cruising on the sea or inland. For much of the year, the boat can operate ‘off-grid’.
The vessel is being offered for sale as a potential liveaboard, currently moored on the River Arun at Littlehampton.
Lola is a steel-hulled cruiser, similar in layout to the class of vessel generally known as Dutch Steel Cruisers.
It was designed originally for cruising on inland waterways in mainland Europe and is fitted with the instrumentation and facilities required for such use. However, it is offered for sale as a live-aboard vessel for static use.
It is capable of limited movement under controlled conditions, for example to relocate to an alternative mooring, but some of the navigation equipment would need attention for serious long distance cruising.
The following description includes many features that are irrelevant for static use, and attention is drawn to items that require attention.
Lola is unusual in a number of respects. The primary propulsion is by electric motors, though a diesel auxiliary engine is also fitted driving a third outdrive using hydraulic transmission.
The batteries for the propulsion system also power the 230v equipment including power sockets, refrigeration, hot water and most of the lighting, and the batteries are charged both from shore power and a solar panel array on the roof of the boat.
The hull is finished in high grade marine epoxy paint which was applied following grit-blasting of the steel.
The systems on board are comprehensively documented and every pipe and cable is numbered at both ends allowing its function and destination to be determined by reference to a spreadsheet.
