43ft narrowboat with a 48V DC 8kW Lynch Marlin electric engine.
BUILD:
The interior is of high quality reclaimed materials where that was possible. The underfloor is mahogany, covered with oak parquet. The walls are clad in oak originally from a school near Cardiff.
Curtain rails and fittings are bespoke made of copper, the kitchen counter is quartz and there is a reclaimed two-tiered butler sink. The stove stands on reclaimed marble. There are inbuilt bookshelves and other storage space throughout, including rails for coats and pots and pans.
There is a small double bed with demko natural mattress and lots of under-bed storage. There is space for single guests (under 5’8″) in the stern on a futon above the engine.
Steel hull finished and floated in December 2019 by John from Three Bz Boat Builders in Polesworth.
Standard thickness 10mm bottom x 6mm sides. No survey needed as she is not even 5 years old. Blacked again and anodes checked in July 2022. The bilge is 100% dry and the boat has had no damp issues.
BSS dated 2023.
The insulation is spray foam which keeps the boat warm and dry. The forward windows are double glazed. The stern windows are 1920s crittall from a cottage in Guildford.
HEAT
A-rated Esse Ironheart Stove.
A “pigeon box” skylight hatch above the stove allows any smoke build up to escape and cools the boat down in the summer.
No installed electric water heater but this would be possible either under the sink or directly in the shower area. Works well heating water by induction or stove
WATER
A huge 990 litre stainless steel water tank lasts 6 weeks between fills or 5 weeks with very heavy use.
Installed is a compost toilet with urine diverter and a French galvanised tub shower – manual, no damp-prone internal water drain and pump.
ELECTRIC SYSTEM
6 large solar panels charge two strings of four x 12V Xtreme AGM batteries with a life expectancy of 10 years. Panels and batteries were installed in December 2021. Coming up on their third year, we have noticed no major change in their output. Battery balancers are installed to ensure they stay healthy. As cruisers in London, they have only had moderate use.
Max cruise attempted on a single (sunny) day: 11.5mi over 7.5hrs.
Solar Charge Controller, Smart Shunt and bus bar are from Victron and the inverter providing mains 240V power is a Victron Multiplus II GX 2400kW 35A. Charge state, solar power, and other electricity stats can all be read on the Victron app via bluetooth.
The engine is by Lynch Motors – an 8kW Marlin – which provides incredibly silent cruising.
The lighting is 48V DC long-life LED bulbs.
A battery alarm sounds when the voltage level is brought below the level where long depletion would cause damage. In practice this only sounds at full throttle after a very long cruise or when attempting to use an appliance that is above the 2.4kW range of the inverter.
PRICE & WORK
There is awareness that there is cosmetic repainting to be done externally and some interior aesthetic work around the windows and bathroom also.
There is room for negotiation in the price to help accommodate any work needed to do.
